Field Trip

Today Perry and I went on a field trip with his class to the fire department and the police station. They got to see where the firefighters eat together, watch cartoons, excercise, and sleep. The captain had a Spiderman pillow and a Spongebob Blanket. All the kids thought that was very funny. They got to see the firepool and the lights that go off in their house when they get called out on an emergency!

.

Perry was so excited to put on a "firefighter costume!"
He even got to drive the truck!
Then we headed over to the Police Station. Our tour guide was very animated!
This sign is posted in the jail cell. Do they honestly think that their prisoners care?

We had a lot of fun! I was so glad that I got to go with my little buddy! I can't believe how big he is getting! He only has 3 more days of school and then he's finished his first year of school! They get big way to fast.

Life is Tough Living in the OC

Everyday is a park or a beach day here in the sunny OC. My kids have it so rough! Bentley loves hanging out with Makayla and Perry. She's pretty good at keeping up with them. She has no fear at all which terrifies me, and such a high pain tolerance! She's mastered the slide like a pro, likes to climb on the ropes, and squeals and laughs the whole time she is on the swing. I love playing with my kids all day!

Makayla has been studying the tide pools at school and had to a project on scallops. We learned all sorts of things about them like, they are born as plankton and scallops eat plankton. They also have 30-40 eyes that can only sense light and motion. That just seems like such a waste of all those eyes! Anyways, for for extra credit we went to the tide pools and here are some pictures of us at our neighborhood tide pools.
Perry calls the tide pools the "hide pools."

Baby #4 Ultrasound

So here "it" is! Our baby! We've had 2 ultrasounds now and both times the babies legs have been crossed and the second one the cord was also in between "it's" legs.  I'm so frustrated at this kid already! I tried the sugar loading thing too, and no luck! This baby doesn't resemble me at all either.

Ragnar Relay LA

I had such a fun time with my friends doing this race! I loved training with all of them and getting to know them better, although some I got to know maybe a little to well!
My van went up the night before and we stayed at the Marriott. It was so nice to sit in a hot tub and have a whole bed to myself! The next morning we decorated our van and hung bras on all the doors and took off to the start line.  Sadie started off the race for us and did such a great job.
I ran with Brooke since my first leg got cut from the race. It was weird running with her since we usually jabber the whole time but we were so focused! We had 3 kills and I even had time to pick a pretty flower and put it in my hair. (I love finding a flower for my hair while I run, I always feel so gross and sweaty so it makes me feel pretty and girly again. )Ok, so maybe Brooke was totally focused and I was busy looking for a good flower. Anyways, we did super good!
My van didn't get any sleep since we decided it would be safer for the 2nd van if we ran their 2nd legs with them. We ran right through the ghetto in the middle of the night! It was absolutely terrifying! Sadie got harassed by a car full of gang members, Mia got lost, and Sara and Tara were were chased by some boys. Although it was scary it made for some good stories.
Our van ended up with 37 kills! I loved passing other runners while being 4 months pregnant! It seriously gave me such an ego boost! I'm so proud of myself and my team! I can't believe we ran all day and night on no sleep and Denny's food. Talk about stomach issues! I'm so excited for next year!

Easter

This year we headed to my parents house in St. George, UT to celebrate Easter. Bentley enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the rain on Saturday with her cousins. She loved putting the eggs in her basket. She would dump out her basket just to put the eggs back in.

These pics are at my moms house. She made the best Sunday breakfast and put on a fabulous easter egg hunt for all of her grand kids. Thanks mom for all your hard work!

Live in Deep Water

Live in Deep Water by Mitt Romney

If you were looking for a family motto this would be one to consider.

I don't remember when it was exactly that I finally went past the sandbar. My family had a summer cottage on the shores of one of the Great Lakes. For the first forty or so feet, the lake is shallow, warm, and protected from big waves by the sandbar. That's where I spent most of the hot summer days as a boy. I liked it there.

One day, my brother got me up on water skis. Perhaps fearing that a turn would make me fall, he drove the boat, and me, straight out into the deep. By the way, this lake is over 100 miles wide. I screamed at him the whole terrifying ride. He took me about a half mile out. But ever after, the deep water was where I wanted to be: surfing in the breakers, water skiing, diving. I got out of the shallow water for good. Over the years, I have watched a good number of people live out their lives in the shallows. In the shallows, life is all about yourself, your job, your money, your house, your rights, your needs, your opinions, your ideas, and your comfort.

In the deeper waters, life is about others: family, friends, faith, community, country, caring, commitment. In the deeper waters, there are challenging ideas, opposing opinions, and uncomfortable battles. Almost every dimension of your life can be held to the shallows or taken into the deeper water. Your career, your involvement with others, your spouse and your children, your politics, each can be lived with you comfortably at the center. Or, they can draw you out of yourself, into service and sacrifice, into selflessness.

At some point in your life, a few of you may be presented with the opportunity to step off your career path, to give yourself fully to some kind of service. When I was asked to leave my investment company to run the Olympics in Salt Lake City, I dismissed the idea out of hand. I was making too much money, I didn't know bupkes about running a sports event. The job would pay me nothing. The organization was in the worst condition of any I had ever seen. And, after the Games were over, the position would lead nowhere. It was a dead end.. I took it. It was the highlight of my professional life. I gave more of myself than I ever had before. I came to know and respect remarkable people.

There are currencies more lasting than money. It can be enormously rewarding to take the unobvious course, to jump into the deep water. Bias is shallow thinking and shallow water. Read widely, particularly from people who disagree with you. Argue to learn rather than to win. If you don't respect, I mean really respect, the views of people who disagree with you, then you don't understand them yet.

There are smart people on both sides of almost every important issue. Learn from them all. If you have life all figured out in neat little packages, you're in Neverland, not the real world. And it's boring there. There's one more thing I've seen in the people who swim in the deep waters of life. They don't fashion their values and principles to suit their self-interest; they live instead by enduring principles that are fundamental to society and to successful, great lives.

I learned important lessons about those principles from some of the Olympians I saw in Salt Lake City, like bobsledder Vonetta Flowers. Vonetta was brakeman on USA sled two. All the attention, however, was on sled one, the sled that had taken the World Cup and was a lock for the Olympic Gold. But just before the Olympics, the pilot of sled one dropped her partner and invited Vonetta Flowers to join her. Vonetta had a tough decision. On sled one, she'd get a gold medal for sure; the first Olympic gold to be won by an African American in the Olympic Winter Games. Those of us rooting for US medals hoped she would jump to sled one. She didn't. She decided that friendship and loyalty to her longtime teammate on sled two was more important than winning the gold. Of course, sled one did well. But when sled two beat them all, coming in first, the crowd went nuts. And tears dripped off Vonetta's cheeks. Friendship and loyalty above gold.

You live one time only. Don't spend it in safe, shallow water. Launch out into the deep. Give yourself to your family, to your career, to your community. Open your mind to diverging viewpoints. And live, not by what suits the moment, but by the principles that endure for a lifetime.

Jump in, the water's fine!

I'm Awake!

I'm finally awake long enough to update my blog! This pregnancy is exhausting! So for starters, Bentley got a big girl car seat and sits forward in the car now! She absolutley loves looking out the window and watching where we are going!
Makayla participated in her jogathon at school and ran 21 laps! We gathered up the crew and headed to her school to cheer her on. We managed to stand out a little bit as the only family with a big sign and cow bell. Next year we are going to bring an air horn too! I'm so happy that we don't embarass her yet but something tells me it's gonna happen very soon! I am so proud of all of her training and hard work!
Bentley was very happy with her cow bell!

Last week Grandma Jeanne, Grandpa Richard, and Aunt Megan came to visit from Canada. We had a ton of fun! We went to Disneyland on Monday. Makayla played hookie twice last week and went to Disneyland. We are horrible parents! But my children love me for it! ;) Then Friday we went to Balboa and rented a big bike and rode the boardwalk. Perry and Bentley had tons of fun riding in the basket! Bentley waved at everbody we passed, she is so stinkin cute!
